Joseph Agbeko & Abner Mares Rescheduled

10 06 2011

The fight between Joseph Agbeko and Abner Mares that was scheduled for April 23, had to be postponed due to an injury sustained by Joseph Agbeko.  Agbeko was diagnosed in April with sudden onset sciatica, right before the fight,  and has been going through physical therapy in his hometown of Ghana ever since.  He recently completed his physical therapy, and the doctors approved that he is able to begin training for his fight against Abner Mares.  Agbeko is scheduled to return to New York to begin his training sometime next week.  The fight is scheduled for August 13, and will be aired on Showtime.

The two fighter will finally have a chance to defend their belts.  Joseph Agbeko is the current IBF Bantamweight champion, and Abner Mares is the WBC Silver title holder.  This should be a great fight, since they both have their title on the line.  Plus, the last time either of them fought anyone was in December 2010, in Tacoma Washington, during the Bantamweight tournament.

Abner Mares, is an undefeated title holder, from Hawaiian Gardens, California.  He has survived some brutal fights in the past, and proved himself each time.  Mares refused to take any other fight, because he wants to prove he is the best, by defeating the best out there.  This should be a tough fight for the Ghana native, whose last fight went the distance, and he won on a decision.

The location of the fight has yet to be disclosed, but the date is set for August 13, 2011.  It will be aired on Showtime at 10pm EST.  I will keep you posted as the story later unfolds.
